Sip Back and Relax: How to Make Cannabis-Infused Tea at Home

December 10, 2024

When it comes to winding down after a long day or soothing your soul on a chilly afternoon, nothing quite hits the spot like a warm cup of tea. But what if you could take your tea game to the next level? Enter cannabis-infused tea—a calming, therapeutic, and tasty way to enjoy the benefits of cannabis without lighting up. Whether you’re sipping to relieve pain, reduce stress, or just vibe out, cannabis tea is a gentle and aromatic alternative that deserves a spot in your wellness routine.

Why Cannabis Tea?

Cannabis tea blends the comfort of herbal brews with the relaxing effects of cannabinoids like THC and CBD. It’s discreet, customizable, and best of all—easy to make right at home. The effects take longer to kick in compared to smoking or vaping, but they last longer and offer a smoother, more sustained experience.

Let’s brew this beauty.

Cannabis-Infused Tea Recipe

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 30–40 minutes
Servings: 2 cups
Experience Level: Beginner-friendly

Ingredients:

  • 1 gram of ground decarboxylated cannabis (see tip below)
  • 1–2 cups of water
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or butter (for THC to bind)
  • 1 tea bag of your choice (chamomile, green tea, or chai work great!)
  • Optional: honey, lemon, cinnamon, fresh mint, or milk for flavor

Instructions:

Step 1: Decarb the Cannabis
Before cannabis can give you its calming effects, it needs to go through a process called decarboxylation. This activates the THC or CBD. Simply grind your flower, spread it on a baking tray, and bake at 240°F (115°C) for about 30–40 minutes. Cool it before using.

Step 2: Boil the Water + Fat
In a small saucepan, bring 1–2 cups of water to a gentle boil. Add your coconut oil or butter—this is key because cannabinoids are fat-soluble and need that fat to bind and become bioavailable.

Step 3: Add the Cannabis
Stir your ground, decarbed cannabis into the boiling mixture. Let it simmer on low for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Don’t let it boil too hard—gentle simmer is best!

Step 4: Strain + Steep Your Tea
Strain the cannabis particles out using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Now add your tea bag to the infused liquid and steep for 5–7 minutes, depending on desired strength and flavor.

Step 5: Flavor It Up + Enjoy
Sweeten with honey, add a squeeze of lemon, or toss in a cinnamon stick for a little kick. Then pour it into your favorite mug and relax.

What to Expect

Cannabis tea can take 30 to 90 minutes to kick in, depending on your metabolism and tolerance. Start slow with a small cup to see how your body responds, especially if you’re new to edibles.

Final Sip

Making cannabis-infused tea is like blending a bit of herbal magic with a whole lot of chill. It’s versatile, easy to make, and a perfect companion for self-care Sundays, creative brainstorming, or winding down before bed. So the next time you’re brewing a pot, toss in a little green and sip your way to serenity.

Cheers to cozy vibes and elevated sips!
